About Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a national volunteer movement founded in 1977. Since 1990, CASA for Kids of East Texas has been serving abused and neglected children in Smith, Van Zandt, and Wood Counties. We are assigned by the court to represent foster children.

What is a Court Appointed Special Advocate?

CASA volunteers are everyday people – teachers, business people, retirees, stay-at-home parents, and grandparents – committed to making a difference for children who might otherwise slip through the cracks in an overburdened foster care system. They are appointed by judges to guide one child or one set of siblings through the system to a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.
